New Dual-Fuel Electric+ drives LNG vessels to the future
The innovative Dual-Fuel Electric+ (DFE+) propulsion concept for vessels in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain is based on the MAN 49/60DF engine and ABB’s Dynamic AC power distribution and control system. It helps cut carbon footprints and fuel bills for LNG carriers and floating storage regasification units (FSRUs) by allowing higher operational flexibility. DFE+ enables the MAN 49/60DF to run at variable speed over the entire engine load. While the MAN 49/60DF already has best-in-class efficiency, DFE+ manages to raise this efficiency even further and also significant reduces methane slip over the entire engine map, opening up another path for compliance with future emission regulations.
